To All The Supporters Of Karla Waddell
My yRun Story
I run for those who can’t! I am inspired to run for my nephew, John David Olson, who was just diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor, Anaplastic Astrocytoma. I will run to raise an awareness of the symptoms, and support research. Also, to raise money to cover medical expenses, and keep John’s insurance premiums paid. He is not able to work any longer, affected by the symptoms of this level 3 tumor.
Some Words About John Olson
John is 40 years old and lives in Fridley, Mn., with his wife, Cindy. David, John’s son is 19 years old, and in the National Guard.
John is a humble, compassionate, loving individual. The doctor informed us that John has a brain tumor. Family members all gathered together to support him. He had a biopsy. We received news we did not want to hear. The tumor is inoperable because of the location of it.
John just began the difficult, challenging, six weeks of radiation and chemotherapy sessions. The treatments leave John worn out physically and emotionally. Family and friends are the driving forces that help John during this time.
Why Do I Run?
I began running 20 years ago in our local 5k race, the Lindstrom, Loppet. Four years ago I decided to focus on nutrition, and get physically fit.
Now at 54 years of age, I am tapping into my potential, running 5K and 10K races.
After participating in Midwest Triathlon Sprint in Chisago Lakes, MN, last July, 2010, I set a new goal of running Grandma’s Marathon June 18, 2011. The journey I am on through training for this 26 mile race, has taught me many things about myself. Nothing could top this journey more than having the privilege of running for John.
How can you help?
One of the goals of yRun is to help individuals raise awareness and financial support for a cause close to them. On June 18th, 2011, Karla Waddell will be running Grandma’s Marathon in Duluth, MN. To support John Olson, I am asking for you to MAKE A DONATION to help support John and the fight against cancer.
Whether you can make a donation of $5 or $500, every dollar raised will go towards awareness, research, and John’s personal battle with cancer. If you cannot make a financial donation, I still appreciate your support so feel free to leave me some encouraging words below or directly on the yRun Facebook Page.
Thank You,
Karla Waddell
