My yRun Story
This year I will be running Grandmas Marathon in honor of my friend Craig Dornfeld. Craig passed away in October of 2009. He was a great family man and friend throughout the years. He is survived by his wife and two children. Craig has enriched my life, so now it is my time to give back to him and his family.
I think of Craig a lot while I'm out running and fishing. I think about what a devoted family man he was and what kind of challenges are ahead for his family, Maddy and Jack especially. This year is hardest not being able to talk to him and I can't imagine how hard it is for Maddy and Jack to grow up without their father. I run to help support the Craig's Benefit Memorial Fund & to honor him.
Some Words About Craig Dornfeld
I met Craig about 18 years ago, and it wasn't until the last 10 years when we became good friends. We shared a passion for the outdoors, especially walleye fishing on Mille Lacs Lake. Throughout the last five years or so, every Friday on the way to the lake I would give Craig a call, and we would talk about fishing until the cell phone would cut out. Our conversations weren't just fish stories and where the fish were biting, but we talked about life... People come into our lives for a reason, a season, or a lifetime.
Even though Craig was only physically here for a short time, he will be apart of all the peoples lives he touched for a lifetime.
Why Do I Run?
Growing up, my dad was always a runner and ran Grandma’s Marathon. I always thought that some day I would like to try. It wasn’t until my younger brother ran grandmas that I thought I could do it. I couldn’t let him show me up!
So the next year I signed up and started training. I grew to love the time I spend running with brother and the competition between the two of us. There is nothing better than setting a goal for yourself and accomplishing it accept doing it with your brother and running in honor of one of your best friends.
I run for Craig. I run for those who can’t.
